We’re covering everything shown off at the annual Summer Games Fest, which is more or less the new E3 in terms of what it means for gamers. In this article we’re covering everything shown off at the Tribeca Game Showcase during day 4 of the event. Day 5 of Summer Game Fest rolled on with two smaller, low-key showings from Ubisoft and Capcom directly, and while there weren’t many big new surprises, there were a few nice updates and expanded coverage on a few games, in particular Ubisoft showed off 10 minutes of Star Wars Outlaws and gave a far better idea of what the game had in store for players whenever it manages to come out.

Some of the guesses about the trailer when it first debuted and following PR talk hinted that this is the first “open world” Star Wars game, and the 10 minute trailer tried to show off how and what that means for the franchise. Frankly, it does look quite fun from what was previewed, although with quite a bit of the usual expected focus on third person stealth and action, platforming, and vehicular travel. Protagonist Kay seems the usual video game everywoman in terms of skill, but the hints of space battle and exploration of some sort certainly got me far more excited than I was from the sizzle reel. Of course, it remains to be seen how the game actually plays, and what type of story it tells; will players have choices, and will those choices matter? I’m also wondering if Ubisoft’s penchant for Open World (ALA Assassin’s Creed and FarCry) will poke it’s head in here, or if we’ll get something that veers a bit more away from the usual. Also, we got confirmation that this game will be multiplatform, so woohoo!
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Leading off the show of Summer Game Fest’s main stage a few days ago, it was nice to see in-game footage for this upcoming relaunch of Prince of Persia. Honestly, it’s still one of my favorite reveals of the weekend, and the gameplay only helped cement that this is a must play for me when it hits. I love the return to more classic Prince of Persia elements and POV, and honestly the series could likely be a hit with a relaunch again. The trailer showed off some powers that Sargon will have available, and it seems like the series is again utilizing some time and space warping shenanigans to create inventive solutions to puzzles. The trailer doesn’t really show a lot from a clear start to finish, so there’s still a lot we don’t know about this game, but it does look quite fun and the return to the classic 2d plane hopefully makes things refreshing.

After taking a bit of a break from the series, it seems Ubisoft is ready for Assassin’s Creed to return to the fore as one of their major franchises. Let’s get some small things out of the way: Nexus is some sort of VR thing, and if you’re into that and have a Meta Quest 2, well, it will come out eventually. Codename Jade is in open beta on mobile platforms, although the honest truth is that it’s nearly criminal of Ubisoft to not explore Chinese history in a mainline game and instead shunt it into a mobile game that few will likely play, but maybe I’ll be wrong on that one; maybe we’ll even get a more mainline game that returns there later, who knows. The biggest of the three is Mirage, the return to franchise mainline game that… honestly, if you like Assassin’s Creed, you’ll probably like Mirage, but if you find Valhalla’s more adventure and combat style world more interesting, it seems that the series is opting to return to its roots for better or worse.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Another game that had a short preview during the Xbox Game Show, Capcom took the time to show off some of the gameplay of this upcoming release, and it’s gameplay looks quite stylish and exciting to live up to the aesthetics that it’s trailer showed off. The game features third-person action, and does seem to imply through some of the scenes that multiplayer of some form is a possibility. In some ways it reminded me of the Nioh series from Koei-Tecmo with the camera style and action combo focus, so it will remain to be seen how the game actually plays out. The ancient Japanese aesthetic certainly looks colorful and vibrant, so if the gameplay lives up to the promise of the aesthetics, there’s a lot of fun to look forward to here. Sadly, there’s no concrete release date yet, so this is very much a wait and see trailer for next year at the least.
Exoprimal

Exoprimal is certainly a game that exists, by which I mean I can honestly not make heads or tails of what the game wants to be, but it looks like it has the potential to be an absolute blast of a time. In some ways it reminds me of the EDF series of games, but with more polish and dinosaurs instead of giant ants, and a framerate higher than single digits. The biggest thing that Exoprimal has going for it is that everything about it’s action sequences seem over the top and silly, and if shooting hordes of time-travelling dinosaurs, you can sign up for the open beta that will be running from June 16-18 on the Exoprimal website. The initial weird tease of Street Fighter skins from the other day was not that exciting, but the gameplay trailer shown here does give some promise to hopefully providing a fun squad based multiplayer experience; we don’t have long to find out.
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Following behind the updated HD remasters of the original Ace Attorney trilogy, Capcom finally revealed the HD remasters for Ace Attorney 4, 5, and 6, bringing the mainline series out of the age of the 3DS and into many more console homes. If you’ve never tried them before, Ace Attorney is truly a one of a kind experience, where players are tasked with defending their clients on the stand in outrageous and evolving storylines. The Ace Attorney franchise is one of my favorite series of all time, and it is worth giving a try if you like narrative games, puzzles, or just something a little out of the ordinary. With this new trilogy, players will be able to go through the entire series from modern consoles, and the switch especially seems like the perfect home for the entire series to rest. Now, next time, give us a new game in the series Capcom!
Dragon’s Dogma 2

I’m going to take a moment to state an opinion: Dragon’s Dogma is one of the greatest games of all time that people have never given a true chance when it first came out, and when it was updated in Dark Arisen, became an even greater game. Anyway! All of that is mostly to say that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is my 100% most looked forward to game in 2024. Assuming we simply get an “updated” version that takes advantage of modern gameplay technology, DD2 would likely be one of the greatest games you can play. The variety of interactions available is endless; my favorite thing to do with Dragon’s Dogma is swap stories of things that happened to my PC and my Pawns, and getting stories from other players in return. Creating your own character, creating your pawns, and then sending them out into the internet to play with other people is also interesting, leading you to wonder what they’re getting up to out there. Dragon’s Dogma does what a lot of other fantasy action-rpg games wish they could do, and even on the ‘dated’ hardware of the game still manages to impress me when I go back to play it again. While we wait for more info, you should absolutely check out Dark Arisen.
Wrapping up Ubisoft and Capcom
There isn’t really much else to talk about, sadly; both conferences were rather sparse and a little dry in terms of new games and information. Capcom revealed that the once hyped Pragmata is now delayed indefinitely, Ubisoft promised some collaborations with existing licenses like Halo, and both companies discussed some VR and mobile options.
